Expansion Project
Expand your Library.
Expand your Mind.
The Nelson Library has launched an exciting new expansion project. Our library is undersized for the population that we serve and our usage of the facility and circulation are both much higher than other libraries of similar size in British Columbia. The time has come for an expanded library to reflect the needs of our community.
We plan to:
- Relocate and reconfigure the circulation desk for a better use of space.
- Move the Local Collection to the main floor where it will be more accessible.
- Create spaces for art.
- Build a staircase and lift to provide access and light to Lower Floor.
- Relocate offices to maximize the natural light flowing into the library.
- Create more space for the Adult, Children and Teen sections by relocating the Children's section to the Lower Floor.
- Create a dedicated Teen space.
The first phase of this project begins in March and includes the new Circulation desk and construction of the Archives room for the Local Collection and the construction of the staircase.
